Perry Rodrigues, A.K.A. Perrion, is an emerging young artist from Harlem—151st between Amsterdam and Broadway to be exact. His age, 23 years, is merely a statistic of how long he has been here, as a listen through any of his five mixtapes will allude to experience and instinct beyond his years. Perry’s rap style is an unbelievably interesting reflection on the household he grew up in, with a father who loved and collected rap music as an avid fan, but instilled in him the values of maturity and adulthood. His music also considers the ways in which the context of the culture he grew up in permeated his own personal values and understanding. He’s been around a while, and definitely seen a lot at a young age. However, he managed to find success in music at a young age, and his style and content have filtered through experience in skateboarding, producing, and drumming in a punk band. He received a record deal with Universal at age 13 with his older brother Preview, and has since collaborated with the likes of Joey Bada$$, A$AP FERG, and numerous others. Perry’s humble foundation alludes to the idea that he truly just hopes to be one of the lucky handful to turn what is truly their greatest hobby into a life and career.
